WASHINGTON, D.C. --- North American Bus Industries Inc. (NABI) is recalling 226 MY 2009 416 standard-floor city transit buses manufactured between Oct. 30, 2008 and Dec. 18, 2009.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the mounting plate that holds the steering gear assembly may not have been sufficiently welded. This could lead to a separation or partial separation of the plate and cause the driver to lose steering control of the bus.

NABI will notify owners and repair the buses free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin this month.

Bus owners can contact NABI at (256) 831-4296 ext 1308.
