HARRISBURG, PA --- The Pennsylvania House Transportation Committee on Tuesday, Nov. 10, unanimously approved state legislation that would ban texting behind the wheel.

The committee voted to send House Bill 2070 to the House floor for a vote. The committee's chair, Rep. Joe Markosek (D-Monroeville), is the bill's primary sponsor. He said he hopes the House will approve the legislation by the end of the year, the Post-Gazette reported.

AAA and Verizon Wireless both issued statements in support of the bill. AAA spokesman Brian Newbacher noted that a recent survey of AAA members in Pennsylvania showed 93-percent support for such a law.
