WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Ford is recalling 11,134 MY 2009 4X2 Ranger vehicles because some front wheel spindles were improperly manufactured. The problem potentially creates "the risk that a spindle may fracture during the normal useful life of the truck," according to the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

If a spindle fractures, NHTSA said, the wheel may separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the front spindle, if necessary, free of charge.

Vehicle owners can contact Ford at (866) 436-7332.
