MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. --- A chain-reaction crash involving more than 20 trucks and cars today closed all westbound lanes of Interstate Highway 94 for a nine-mile stretch, the Chicago Tribune reported.

"Westbound lanes between U.S. highways 421 and 35 have been shut down since the weather-related pileup occurred about 6:30 a.m. and were still closed at 8:45 a.m., State Trooper Carl Werner said. There was one minor injury. The crash appeared to be the most severe of several in the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana Wednesday morning.

Roads were icy, and traffic moved slowly throughout the region.
