Drunk Driver Calls 911 to Report Herself

January 31, 2008

FOX LAKE, Wis. --- A drunk woman called 911 early Sunday, Jan. 27, telling the sheriff's department dispatcher that she might need a sheriff's squad to follow her home because she'd been drinking, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported this week.

The self-confessional drunk driver, Pat Dykstra, said she made the call at her boyfriend's request. During the 911 call, she gave her full name, a description of her pickup truck, and an estimated arrival time for home. When deputies pulled up in her driveway, she said: "I know why you're here."

Deputies administered a breath test, and she registered a blood alcohol content of 0.14. Dykstra now faces a $740 fine and possible revocation of her license.

Following her arrest, Dykstra agreed to a local TV news interview. "I really wasn't sure," she said before the TV cameras. "Like I said, I don't think I was really thinking that much at the time either."

It turns out that local law enforcement personnel consider Dykstra a good neighbor --- just not one with perfect judgment.

"She's a great gal," Dodge County Sheriff Todd Nehls said. "She lives 2 miles from my house. I've talked to her several times in the past. She's a strong supporter of law enforcement. That night she made a bad choice."
