Avalanche Risk Closes Interstate 90 in Washington State

January 31, 2008

SPOKANE, Wash. --- A high risk of avalanche has closed Washington's main east-west highway across the Cascade Range.

The Washington Department of Transportation said Snoqualmie Pass on Interstate 90 would remain closed until at least 9 a.m. Friday. Crews need to remove as much as five feet of snow that has accumulated over the past five days, the AP reported.

Another two feet are expected to fall on the pass through Friday.
