Seven Hurricanes Predicted in 2008

SAN FRANCISCO --- Hurricane forecaster William Gray issued his 2008 forecast last week, predicting seven Atlantic hurricanes --- three of which would qualify as "major."According to MarketWatch, the report also says that the odds of a major hurricane slamming into the U.S. Gulf or East Coast next year are 60 percent --- a bit above the 52 percent average over the past century.Gray is professor emeritus at Colorado State University's Department of Atmospheric Science. He heads one of the world's most respected hurricane forecasting teams. His reports are closely watched by energy traders, the travel industry, farmers and insurance underwriters.
