Scion xD Draws 'Good' Ratings in Side-Impact and Rear Crash Tests

November 21, 2007

ARLINGTON, Va. --- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has given the 2008 Scion xD overall "good" ratings for its performance in side-impact and rear crash tests. In the frontal offset test, the vehicle drew an overall score of "adequate."In the side-impact test, the institute concluded: "Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity." The institute also praised the car's head protection for both the driver and rear passenger dummies. In evaluating the head-protection measures for the driver, the institute said: "The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof."In evaluating the frontal offset test results, the institute noted: "Measures taken from the head and both legs indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the neck and chest when the dummy moved forward into the airbag indicate that injuries to these parts of the body would be possible. Head acceleration from the roof rail hit was low."
