'08 Chevy Malibu Draws Good Rating in Frontal Crash Test
--- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has given the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu an overall "good" rating in a frontal crash test. The Chevrolet Malibu was redesigned for the 2008 model year. The institute assigned the rating based on a test conducted by General Motors as part of frontal crash test verification. In assessing the restraints and dummy kinematics, the institute concluded that the dummy movement was well controlled. "After the dummy moved forward into the airbag, it rebounded into the seat without its head coming close to any stiff structure that could cause injury," the institute said. In assessing injury measures, the institute noted that "measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the right tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be possible." In side impact tests, 2005-07 Malibu models with front and rear head curtain airbags and front seat-mounted torso airbags drew an overall rating of good. In addition, 2004 models manufactured after February 2004 with front and rear head curtain airbags drew a good rating. But 2004-06 models without side airbags drew an overall rating of poor in side impact tests.
