Commercial Vehicle Group to Launch Safe Driver Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance will conduct a new road safety campaign, dubbed "Operation Safe Driver," Oct. 21-28. The program's aim is to improve commercial and non-commercial driver behavior and performance through more effective enforcement and education. CVSA said 12 percent of the fatal crashes on highways in the U.S. involve trucks and buses. According to a report in Today's Trucking, the goals of the Operation Safe Driver campaign are to: ** Increase commercial vehicle traffic enforcement efforts ** Increase non-commercial vehicle traffic enforcement efforts** Increase safety belt enforcement efforts ** Increase driver roadside inspections ** Increase driver regulatory compliance ** Implement commercial driver educational and awareness programs ** Increase public awareness about safe operations around commercial motor vehicles.
