New Study Ranks Nation's Safest Driving City

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Motorists in Sioux Falls, S.D., are the safest in the nation, and Midwest cities account for half of those in the top 10. That’s according to a new study by Allstate Insurance, as reported by the Associated Press. The company calculated the chance that drivers in 200 of the nation’s most populated cities would be involved in an accident. Sioux Falls motorists average an accident once every 14.3 years — 30 percent better than the national rate of one every 10 years.Researchers with Allstate analyzed two years of internal crash data for the study. The company claims a 12 percent market share of the nation’s auto insurance policies.The nation’s safest cities based on internal crash data analyzed by Allstate Insurance Co. over a two-year period:

1. Sioux Falls, S.D.
2. Fort Collins, Colo.
3. Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
4. Huntsville, Ala.
5. Chattanooga, Tenn.
6. Knoxville, Tenn.
7. Des Moines, Iowa.
8. Milwaukee, Wis.
9. Colorado Springs, Colo.
10. Warren, Mich.

Cities between 500,000 and 1 million:

1. Milwaukee, Wis.
2. Memphis, Tenn.
3. Nashville, Tenn.
4. Louisville, Ky.
5. Denver, Colo.
6. El Paso, Texas
7. Detroit, Mich.
8. Indianapolis, Ind.
9. Oklahoma City, Okla.
10. Tucson, Ariz.

Cities above 1 million:

1. Phoenix, Ariz.
2. San Diego, Calif.
3. New York City, N.Y.
4. San Antonio, Texas
5. Houston, Texas
