The third-generation 2016 Toyota Tacoma base model SR will carry a retail price of $24,200 when it arrives at dealer lots in the middle of September for about a $3,000 increase over the outgoing model.

Toyota offers the Tacoma in the SR, SR5,TRD Sport, TRD Off Road and Limited trim levels. The 2016 Tacoma, which is getting an extensive redesign, is offered in the Access Cab or Double Cab and with an optional 3.5-liter V-6 and four-wheel drive.

The entry Tacoma SR Access Cab is equipped with the 2.7-liter four-cylinder and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The top-range Double Cab Limited with V-6 and 6-speed transmission will retail for $35,645.

The Tacoma SR 4x4 retails for $25,725 for the four-cylinder and 5-speed manual transmission to $38,720 for the Limited with V-6 and automatic transmission.

Commercial fleets typically purchase the SR and SR5 Tacoma models with primarily the Access Cab and some Double Cabs, said Mark Oldenburg, Toyota's national fleet marketing, mobility and strategic planning manager. The Rollins Corp. is Toyota's top Tacoma commercial customer. The company's Orkin pest service unit issues the trucks to its drivers.

The 2015 Tacoma retained 74.9 percent of its value over a three-year time period and 60.4 percent over a five-year period, according to Kelley Blue Book.
