July 08, 2004

Edmunds.com, an Internet resource for consumer automotive information, has released its top best-value choices in the used vehicle market. Edmunds.com's 2004 used-car Best Bets are:Economy Car: 1997-2002 Honda CivicMidsize Car: 1997-2002 Toyota CamryLarge Car: 1997-2002 Ford Crown Victoria / Mercury Grand MarquisLuxury Car: 1997-2002 Lexus ES 300Sporty Car: 1997-2002 Mazda MiataMini-SUV: 1997-2002 Honda CR-VSUV: 1999-2002 Nissan PathfinderMinivan: 1999-2002 Honda OdysseySmall Pickup: 1997-2002 Ford Ranger / Mazda B-SeriesLarge Pickup: 1997-2002 Ford F-150Edmunds.com editors emphasize reliability, safety, and availability as the most important criteria when developing their best-value list. The editors also limited selection age range to 2-7 years because older vehicles typically have unacceptably high mileage, and newer units will not have experienced the initial depreciation hit that generally makes a low-mileage 2- or 3-year-old car the best value.
