Several manufacturers reported a record-setting month of May for sales of certified pre-owned vehicles. GM’s certified used-vehicle program reported a solid May, with approximately 43,636 total certified used-vehicles sold, including the Cadillac, Saturn, and Saab certified brands. The GM Certified Used Vehicle brand alone sold 36,394 vehicles, an increase of 28 percent over last year. BMW reported May sales of 6,715 vehicles – an increase of 24 percent over the 5,422 reported sold last May. This number surpasses the previous record of 6,204 vehicles in a given month. For the year, sales of certified pre-owned BMWs have increased 17 percent, to 28,123 vehicles. This compares to 24,075 reported sold in the same period a year ago. Mercedes-Benz USA's Starmark certified pre-owned vehicle program continued its record pace with sales of 4,962 units in May, the best month ever for Starmark sales. This brought Starmark's year-to-date total to 20,930, an increase of 15.4 percent over last year. Saab Certified Pre-Owned vehicles sold 913 vehicles in the month of May, a 125 percent increase over 2002. Year-to-date sales increased to 3,212 vehicles, an increase of 153 percent over last year’s 1,268 vehicles.
