Westport Fuel Systems will provide its high pressure direct injection technology, designed to enable heavy-duty trucks to operate on natural gas, to the Chinese market. The system promises reduced fuel costs, reduced carbon-dioxide emissions, and diesel-like performance.

Westport signed a memorandum of understanding with Weichai Power Co. for the development, marketing, and commercialization of Westport's high-pressure direct injection technology to help meet China emissions standards and supply certain components, Westport announced in a release.

Westport Fuel Systems engineers, manufactures and supplies alternative fuel systems and components. Weichai Power is a Chinese state-owned enterprise that specializes in the research and development, manufacturing, and sale of diesel engines.
