ROCKLEIGH, NJVolvo Cars of North America (VCNA) introduced its free Volvo On Call application for the iPhone, which gives users more access to the automaker’s roadside assistance program.

The app can put a user in touch with a roadside assistance agent who can send help to the vehicle’s location, determined by GPS. The app can provide users with an estimated time of arrival for the dispatched tow service or service provider, updates throughout the roadside or towing service, and an emergency response button.

The always available service includes towing to the nearest Volvo retailer, lockout assistance, battery jump-starting, flat tire change, emergency gasoline delivery, and trip routing, among other related services.

The app also offers maintenance-related features. Users can enter multiple VINs into the app to manage a group of vehicles. The app will remind Volvo drivers of scheduled maintenance, based on vehicle mileage. The app features recall data for all vehicle manufacturers from the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The retailer locator function provides information and directions to the nearest Volvo dealer, or within a city.

The free app was developed by VCNA and Cross Country Automotive Services (Cross Country), Volvo's roadside assistance partner. The app can be downloaded on the App Store at http://www.itunes.com/appstore. A version for Android devices will soon follow, Volvo stated.
