International Data Group's CIO has named Wheels, Inc. as a recipient of the 2017 CIO 100 award that recognizes 100 organizations around the world that have distinguished themselves by creating business value through the effective and innovative use of information technology.

Wheels was honored for its software-as-a service solution that supports its reimbursement program. The company created a new offering that allows drivers to use personal vehicles instead of company-provided vehicles, while still accessing appropriate services utilized by their organization's fleet of leased vehicles.

Wheels created new applications leveraging business intelligence and data analytical tools to build a reimbursement program that's easy for clients to successfully set up and manage, according to the company. The program uses machine learning and pattern-matching algorithms to automatically determine market costs for each driver's situation by zip code, which enables companies to provide fair reimbursement rates for driver expenses while controlling costs. In addition, the program uses driver mileage entries to learn if drivers are properly documenting business travel miles for IRS reporting.

"We are extremely honored that IDG has recognized Wheels' innovative use of technology and the significant value our platforms deliver to our clients," said Tim O'Hara, chief information officer at Wheels. "Our reimbursement program is the first truly integrated solution through which clients can manage their reimbursed drivers using the same tools and support resources that were previously available only to company-provided vehicle segments. Customers now have new options to make their workforces satisfied and productive while increasing control over risk and costs,"

Winning companies will be recognized at The CIO 100 Symposium & Awards Ceremony on Aug. 16 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Coverage of the 2017 CIO 100 Awards will be available online at CIO.com on Aug. 16 and in the July/August issue of CIO's digital magazine.
