Toyota to Launch Pure Electric Car by 2012

January 13, 2009

DETROIT – Toyota Motor Corp. said it would launch an all-electric car for city commuting by 2012 in the United States as part of its plan to speed up the introduction of green cars as its global sales falter, according to Reuters.

The FT-EV concept made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit Sunday, where the automaker also unveiled two new gasoline-electric hybrid cars.

Toyota unveiled the all-new 50-mile-per gallon rated third-generation Prius hybrid vehicle and the Lexus 2010 HS 250h, the world's first dedicated luxury hybrid vehicle, at the show.
