While campaigning in corn-rich Iowa, Donald Trump urged federal regulators to increase the amount of ethanol blended into the national gasoline supply.

Trump spoke at an event hosted by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association on Jan. 19 where he said the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency should follow the volumes set out by Congress in 2007, reports The Hill.

In 2015, the EPA used a provision in the initial law to waive specific volumes set in 2007 due to lower demand for the corn-based fuel.

Iowa's Gov. Terry Branstad has urged voters to reject Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and other candidates who oppose continuing the ethanol mandate beyond 2022.

Does he believe this is the right direction for the country, or is he pandering to the Iowa voters just before the upcoming primary?

Ethanol is falling out of favor as a fuel. The 10% current blend was added to help gasoline burn cleaner. Increasing the amount to 15% will decrease fuel efficiency. It is also detrimental to 2-cycle engines like chainsaws and similar small engines. Lets keep politics out of the way of common sense.

Trump is just jumping on the band wagon of the renewable fuel craze in Iowa. The state is infatuated about renewable diesel and alcohol. One of the other candidates, I think it was Cruz who did not endorse the fuel so the pushed Trump to push their agenda. Beside that Corn can be used to feed people and live stock. But wait their are no subtitles for food just renewable fuels. What was I thinking!
