Energy Bill With Electric & NG Vehicle Funding Fails

August 10, 2010

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate leaders announced Tuesday, Aug. 3, that they lack the 60 votes necessary to pass an energy bill that proposed billions in funding to promote the use of electric vehicles and natural gas-powered vehicles, the Associated Press reported.

The legislation also included offshore oil drilling reforms.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reed said the legislative effort would be delayed until September, after legislators return from summer recess.

The bill was previously approved by the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
