Four Tactics to Improve Last Mile Delivery Efficiency

Four Tactics to Improve Last Mile Delivery Efficiency

Four Tactics to Improve Last Mile Delivery Efficiency

The process of getting goods from their point of origin (e.g. the factory) to the end user (e.g. a customer) can be complex, particularly when those goods travel thousands of miles around the world, using different modes of transport, often referred to as intermodal.

Of that journey, the section between the last fulfillment center or warehouse and the customer’s doorstep is referred to as the last mile.

The last mile may only be a small percentage of the total distance – remember it is not literally one mile – as the costs can no longer be spread across a lot of shipped items. With less goods available to share the burden of transport costs, expenses rise, which are generally passed on to the consumer. Identifying ways to improve the efficiency, lower last mile costs and speed up delivery and ETA notification will have a hugely positive impact on customers, which in turn makes the shipper (retailer, manufacturer or distributor etc.) much more competitive.

This whitepaper outlines four tips for reducing the cost and complexity of your last mile delivery.
