Sygic has launched its real-time location and route-sharing feature for premium users through a partnership with Glympse to use that company's location sharing technology, the GPS navigation vendor announced.

Travelers using Sygic’s GPS app can now share information about their real-time location and movements. Users can provide in-depth details in just a few taps, explaining the route they're taking, their current location, and ETA.

Sygic users can do this before hitting the road or in real-time. They can share this travel information by email or using popular messaging apps, such as WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. Recipients are able to access this information in a browser or view the location on a web page.

According to Pew Research, 67% of smartphone owners use their cellphones to access navigation instructions while driving. While most major map applications allow users to share static information, for example their point of location, they do not provide the capability to communicate real-time movement, in the way that a person would track a delivery or an Uber.

Sygic claims it will be the first to offer real-time route-sharing at this scale and that the functionality is now not available in Google Maps or Apple Maps. Alternatives such as Waze provide limited sharing options, with required app downloads, according to the company.

Sygic GPS Navigation is available on iPhone, Android and Windows devices. Sygic is currently offering a Black Friday discount of 70%, providing new users a lifetime premium license of the app from just $16.99.
