EU Commercial Vehicle Registration Up 4%

Commercial vehicle registration in the European Union showed a 4% improvement year-to-date compared to what was reported last year, and was bolstered by an increase in van registration, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) said.

Spain, France, and Germany recorded the highest commercial vehicle registration gains this year which are among the five big markets in the EU, according to the ACEA. Spain grew by 15.1%, France gained 7.7% growth so far this year, and Germany grew by 3.3%. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom showed a 3.9% decrease compared to  last year. Meanwhile, comparing October 2017 data to the same time last year showed an overall 4% growth in the segement compared to last year.

More than 1.6 million new vans were registered in the EU from the start of the year up to October 2017, which was a 4.8% improvement compared to the same time last year, according to the ACEA. Spain, France, and Germany continued to lead the way by gains in 17.2%, 8.3%, and 5.1%, respectively. The United Kingdom showed declines of 3.5% in this segment. When looking at October alone, the segment showed a 12.7% increase compared to 2016 data.

In the new registration for the medium- to heavy-duty commercial vehicle segment, registration for the year was stable when compared to last year. Countries in the EU that showed significant commercial vehicle registration growth were Italy (10.7%) and France (5.8%). Vehicle registration for this segment in October 2017 alone showed a 3.9% growth compared to the same time last year.

Finally, registration for heavy commercial vehicles was also stable for the year, which was bolstered by Italy (1.7%) and France (6.0%). For the segment, October 2017 data showed a 5.3% improvement over registrations during the same time last year.
