Toyota Vietnam is recalling more than 20,000 Vios and Yaris sedans to replace faulty air bag inflators.

The automaker will check and replace the airbag inflator module of the front passenger airbag, according to Vietnam News.

The recall programme covers 18,138 locally assembled Vios cars produced from Jan.  5, 2009 to Dec. 29, 2012, and 1,877 imported Yaris cars produced from Sept.  1, 2009 to Aug. 31, 2012, according to Vietnam News. Improperly manufactured propellant wafers could cause the inflator to rupture and the front passenger air bag to deploy abnormally in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the occupant.

The recall program at the Toyota dealership network is covered by the global Recall Programme of Toyota Motor Corporation, according to The Nation.
