The second-generation 2017 Kia Soul is now available in South Africa, which features a new turbo diesel-powered entry-level model in addition to several design updates.

The new turbocharged diesel derivative that Kia is introducing is the Soul 1.6 CRDI START, which is powered by Kia’s renowned ‘U2’ 1,6-litre turbodiesel engine . This engine mates to a six-speed manual transmission, with no automatic option available, according to the automaker.

It features a comprehensive list of standard specifications, including central locking, an immobiliser, a rear-view camera, electro chromatic rearview mirror, electric windows front and rear. It also features ABS brakes, six airbags, active headrests, and an impact-sensing door unlock function.

The enhanced Kia Soul range comprises six derivatives, covering the START, STREET and SMART specification grades. Apart from the new turbocharged diesel option at the entry level, the Soul START is also available with a normally aspirated 1,6-litre petrol engine, which is also mated to a six-speed manual transmission, according to the automaker.

The Soul 1.6 CDRI START Manual is priced at R 329,995 ($24,697.85), and the Soul START Manual is R 309,995 ($23,200.99).
