February 04, 2015

New Zealand new vehicle sales, which rose to a record in 2014, have continued the upbeat trend this year, rising to a new high for a January month, according to a report by National Business Review (NBR).

New vehicle registrations rose 11 percent to 11,667 in January from the year earlier month, according to data quoted from the Lower Hutt-based Motor Industry Association in the NBR report. Sales of passenger vehicles increased 8.6 percent to 9,010 while commercial vehicle sales jumped 19 percent to 2,657, with both categories at records for a January month, according to the association data.

Japanese car maker Toyota was the top selling brand in January, with a 21 percent market share, followed by Holden with a 13 percent share and Ford on 9 percent. Toyota sold the most passenger vehicles, led by the Toyota Corolla, while Ford sold the most commercial vehicles with its Ford Ranger the top seller, according to the NBR report.
