Toyota Motor Corp. plans to expand production of its Mirai hydrogen fuel cell sedan to 3,000 units in 2017 for Japan, the U.S., and Europe.

Toyota will produce 700 Mirai sedans in 2015 and approximately 2,000 units in 2016. Toyota started selling the vehicle in Japan in mid-December. Toyota will introduce the Mirai in the U.S. and Europe later this year. Toyota will provide Mirai sedans to select fleet customers and bring it to its fleet preview in June.

Toyota increased Mirai production after receiving about 1,500 initial orders in Japan.
