Australian Mining Company Extends Telematics Contract

October 10, 2014

Global mining company Rio Tinto Services Limited has extended its relationship with MiX Telematics in Australia through a three-year variation agreement that includes the option for an additional year. The new contract has already added another 2,300 light and service vehicles as well as other assets to be monitored by the telematics provider, as part of Rio Tinto’s commitment to ensure a high standard of driver safety.

The solution incorporates in-vehicle monitoring, in-cab driver feedback, 24-hour online tracking, and monitoring features as well as customized reporting. The large-scale implementation is expected to be complete by June 2015 and has increased the total number of assets being monitored by MiX Telematics to more than 3,300, according to the company.

Rio Tinto Services Limited mines aluminium, copper, diamonds, thermal and metallurgical coal, uranium, gold, and industrial minerals. The company is strongly represented in Australia and North America, and also has significant businesses in Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America.
