Chinese automaker BYD Co. has received government approval to sell is electric vehicles in Beijing and Shanghai, the company has announced.

BYD received approval from the Beijine Municipal Commission of Economy and Information and Technology in late February. The commission also approved the sale of BAIC Motor Co.'s electric car, the E150EV, reports the Wall Street Journal.

BYD also received approval from the Shanghai government to sell its plug-in hybrid, the Qin.
