Volkswagen has appointed Michael Horn president and CEO of the automaker's North American division, replacing Jonathan Browning, who is leaving for personal reasons.

Horn, 51, takes over Volkswagen Group of America. He had held the role of global after sales since 2009. Prior to that he served as head of sales for Europe, head of sales and marketing for premium-class vehicles, and head of sales for North-Western Europe. He joined the company in 1990 as a brand strategist.

In other moves, Volkswagen named Axel Schulte-Hurmann, 52, as the head of after sales for passenger cars to succeed Horn. He had been head of supply chain for parts and service.

Terence Johnsson, 52, has been named head of overseas sales for Audi, and Ludger Fretzen, 48, has been named head of passenger cars brand sales.
