Daimler AG announced it has formed a partnership with Deutsche Telekom that will promote the automakers planned launch of communications services in its motor vehicles worldwide.

The collaboration is sharply focused on providing new online services and web applications for use in automobiles. Such services include real-time traffic information, mobility options, personal radio and access to social networks, according to Daimler. Drivers can take advantage of all online services and their Mercedes-Benz apps - anywhere and worldwide - with the COMAND Online multimedia system.

Telekom is developing the communications infrastructure required for the solution from Daimler AG, with headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. In addition, Telekom will equip future Mercedes-Benz models with special machine-to-machine (M2M) SIM chips that will ensure adequate mobile transmission capacities, according to the automaker.
