Gasoline Falls to $2.40 Per Gallon

The average price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline fell five-tenths of a cent to $2.408 for the week ending April 13, according to federal data.

Prices across the nine regions tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration offered a mixed bag this week, as nationwide fuel prices remain low. The nationwide average is $1.243 lower than it was a year ago.

The average price rose in five regions and fell in four. The sharpest increase came in the Rocky Mountain region with a 3.2-cent increase to $2.188. The sharpest decline came on the West Coast with a 3.2-cent decline to $2.922.

California remains the most expensive state as tracked by the AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report. California gasoline costs $3.103, followed by Alaska at $3.096. South Carolina remains at the low end of the spectrum with gasoline costing an average of $2.098 per gallon.

Meanwhile, the average price of diesel fell 3 cents to $2.754 per gallon. Diesel now costs $1.198 less than a year ago.
