DEARBORN, MI – Ford announced that its 2013-MY Taurus is certified by the EPA as getting fuel economy of 32 mpg highway when equipped with the automaker’s 2.0L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. The 2.0L EcoBoost delivers a 26-mpg combined EPA rating. Ford added that all three engine options for the 2013-MY vehicle have been certified at 25 mpg or better in EPA highway fuel-economy estimates.

Ford said it also updated the Taurus base 3.5L V-6 engine for 2013, adding twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT), 25 horsepower, and 1 mpg city and 2 mpg highway in EPA estimates – compared to the previous Taurus base V-6 engine.

The automaker said fuel economy for the 2013-MY Taurus is enhanced by a number of technologies, including smart battery management; electric power-assisted steering (EPAS); aggressive deceleration fuel shutoff; a low-tension front-end accessory drive belt; a variable-displacement air conditioning compressor; and reduced friction lubricants. Another feature that improves fuel economy, according to Ford, is the Taurus’ Active Grille Shutter System, which opens and closes shutter slats positioned between the grille opening and radiator in order to optimize operating temperatures and vehicle aerodynamics.

The 2013-MY Taurus is built at Ford’s Chicago Assembly plant and will be available in dealerships later this summer, according to the automaker.
