Los Angeles Takes Step to Give Free City Parking to Some Hybrids

December 16, 2007

LOS ANGELES --- The Los Angeles City Council on Dec. 12 voted to instruct City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo to draft a law that would permit any car with a California-issued alternative fuel decal to park free of charge next to a city meter. According to the Los Angeles Times, the council's decision is intended to make it easier for city parking enforcement officers to carry out an 18-month-old program that gives four hybrid vehicles free parking at meters. Those vehicles are the Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight, Ford Escape Hybrid and Toyota Prius.
