Texas Website Begins Listing Gas Stations With Faulty Gas Pumps

August 05, 2007

AUSTIN, Texas --- The Texas Department of Agriculture has begun listing on its Website all the state gas stations whose gas pumps were shut down by the department in the past 60 days because of rule violations. The department can shut down a pump and order the operator to recalibrate it if the device short-measures in excess of the allowed tolerance. The allowed tolerance for diesel and gas pumps is plus or minus six cubic inches, or about six tablespoons when a 5-gallon test measure is taken. Pumps can also be shut down if they're poorly maintained, don't begin the transaction at $0.000 and 0.000 gallons, or deliver less fuel than the amount indicated on the display by more than twice the allowed tolerance.
