Ford Partners With SoCal Edison to Test Plug-in Hybrids

July 08, 2007

LOS ANGELES --- Ford Motor Co. and Southern California Edison Co. are expected to announce today a partnership that will test plug-in hybrid vehicles. According to the Los Angeles Times, the project will explore how plug-in hybrids can operate on a daily basis and how they can play a role in California's electricity grid. Ford is investigating ways to bring down the cost of plug-in hybrids by using new technology to return unused power to the grid during peak demand. "They understand the grid, we understand the vehicles and together we can figure out how to optimize the system," Susan M. Cischke, Ford's senior vice president for sustainability, environment and safety engineering, told the Times. Edison serves nearly 5 million residential and business customers.
