Major Biodiesel Plant Opens in Galveston

GALVESTON, Texas --- BioSelect Fuels and Chevron Technology Ventures last Tuesday opened a major biodiesel production facility here. BioSelect Fuels is a division of Standard Renewable Energy LLC, and Chevron Technology Ventures is a division of Chevron USA Inc. The facility, Galveston Bay Biodiesel, produces biodiesel from soybeans and other renewable feedstocks. The plant will initially produce 20 million gallons of biodiesel annually, but has the capability to ramp up production to 110 million gallons annually, according to a report from Houston Business Journal. BioSelect, based in Houston, has long-term plans for multiple large-scale operations nationwide and is targeting a capacity of 470 million gallons a year by 2010.
