Gasoline, Diesel Prices Up Again

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Gasoline prices rose for the sixth straight week, increasing 5.4 cents to an average of $2.559 per gallon as of March 12. Prices were 19.3 cents per gallon higher than at this time last year, reported the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration (EIA). All regions reported price increases. East Coast prices were up 4.2 cents to $2.533 per gallon, while Midwest prices rose 2.2 cents to $2.487 per gallon. Prices for the Gulf Coast were up 3.5 cents to $2.402 per gallon. Rocky Mountain prices increased 5.9 cents to $2.412 per gallon. The largest regional increase was on the West Coast, where prices were up 15.5 cents to $2.920 per gallon. California prices were up 17.1 cents to $3.068 per gallon, 53.6 cents per gallon above last year's price.Retail diesel prices were also higher last week, increasing 5.9 cents to $2.685 per gallon. The price was 14.2 cents per gallon higher than at this time last year, the EIA reported. All regions reported diesel price increases. East Coast prices rose 6.5 cents to $2.669 per gallon. Midwest prices were up 6.7 cents to $2.673 per gallon. The Gulf Coast saw an increase of 5.7 cents to $2.644 per gallon, while Rocky Mountain prices were up 7.8 cents to $2.736 per gallon. Diesel prices on the West Coast saw an increase of 1.6 cents to $2.811 per gallon. California prices rose 0.2 cent to $2.899 per gallon. Prices there were 15.2 cents per gallon higher than at this time last year.
