LAS VEGAS – The Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute (AFVi) will host the annual Alternative Fuels & Vehicles National Conference & Expo in Anaheim, Calif., Apr. 1-4, 2007. AFVi has added two new keynote speakers to the lineup. Iconic oilman, investor, and one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs in the world, T. Boone Pickens will be joined by Neel Kashkari, senior adviser to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. Pickens, now the head of BP Capital Management, has been listed as one of the “100 Most Influential People of the Petroleum Century” by Oil & Gas Journal. Pickens embraces alternative fuels, understanding that oil resources are finite. Kashkari joins Pickens in offering clear insights about the state of our oil reserves. As a senior advisor to the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Kashkari leads his work on energy policy and is also one of the architects of President Bush’s new energy plan to reduce America’s oil consumption by 20 percent in 10 years. Kashkari will provide insight into how the plan was developed and the critical role that fleets, entrepreneurs, investors, scientists, farmers, and policymakers have in achieving America’s energy security. The conference features more than 100 speakers, including actor Ed Begley, Jr.; Port of Los Angeles President S. David Freeman; Toronto Star auto reviewer, Jim Kenzie; JD Power and Associates’ Mike Marshall; actor Larry Hagman; and energy analyst and author Terry Tamminen. An estimated 1,500 people will attend, and 60 sessions feature many of the leading decision-makers in alternative fuels and technologies, representing truck manufacturers, fuel suppliers, government agencies, and parts manufacturers. Session topics include legislation, climate change, plug-in hybrids, ports, EPA engine standards, biofuels updates, electric drive advances, and workshops on airports, schools, transit, delivery, and refuse.
