Texas Bill Seeks to Offer Rebate for Hybrid Purchases

February 19, 2007

AUSTIN --- A Texas state bill proposed Feb. 16 seeks to give hybrid vehicle purchasers a 10 percent rebate on their sales tax. According to a report in the Dallas Morning News, the bill would also make buyers of alternative-fuel vehicles eligible for the rebate based on emissions ratings. Those qualifying would be vehicles rated in the EPA's Green Vehicle Guide as emitting less than 0.45 pound of carbon dioxide per mile, or averaging 44 miles to the gallon. The legislation also includes a 7 percent rebate on vehicles that emit less than 0.55 pound of carbon dioxide per mile or average 36 to 43 miles per gallon.
