Illinois to Help Fund New Ethanol and Biodiesel Plants

September 01, 2006

GALESBURG, Ill. --- Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich announced more than $25 million in new grants and added support to help construct five new ethanol and biodiesel production plants throughout Illinois. The new plants will spur about $334 million in private investment, produce 225 million gallons of biofuels annually, create nearly 150 new jobs and reduce dependence on foreign oil, according to a report in the Register-Mail. Central Illinois Energy LLC in Fulton County attracted $6.35 million to build a $100 million ethanol production facility near Canton. State funding includes a $4.5 million grant through the Renewable Fuels Development Program from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, a $750,000 grant from DCEO's Illinois Coal Competitiveness Program, and $1.1 million in infrastructure assistance from the Illinois Department of Transportation's Rail Freight program.
