New York to Open Alt-Fuel Research Center

August 04, 2006

MALTA, N.Y. --- The state of New York plans to build an alternative-fuel research center in Saratoga County. Plug-in hybrid technology will be among the technologies researched. Gov. George Pataki said the center will research new ways to conserve energy, cut dependence on petroleum and decrease emissions, according to a report from WSTM, an NBC affiliate in Central New York. The center will be located at the Saratoga Technology and Energy Park, about 20 miles north of Albany. The facility is expected to open in 2008. Pataki said the state will spend $10 million to convert 600 state vehicles to plug-in hybrid vehicles.
