Rising Gasoline Prices Trigger Inflation

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Soaring gasoline prices helped trigger an increase in consumer inflation in May.The Labor Department reported last week that its Consumer Price Index rose 0.4 percent last month, while core inflation (which excludes food and energy) rose 0.3 percent --- higher than expected. Gasoline was up 4.9 percent in May, following an 8.8 percent jump in April.
