Average Gasoline Price Rises 9 Cents

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The U.S. average retail price for regular gasoline rose 9 cents last week, climbing to $2.588 per gallon as of April 3. That's 37.1 cents higher than last year, reported the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration (EIA). Prices rose throughout the country, with the Gulf Coast seeing the largest increase of 11.4 cents to reach $2.571 per gallon. West Coast prices, the highest regional prices in the country, gained 6.3 cents to reach $2.672 per gallon. California prices rose 7.4 cents to $2.743 per gallon --- 27.9 cents higher than this time last year. East Coast prices rose 8.5 cents to hit $2.581 per gallon, while Midwest prices were up 10.5 cents to $2.576 per gallon.Retail diesel fuel prices increased by 5.2 cents to reach $2.617 per gallon as of April 3, which is 31.4 cents higher than last year, the EIA reported. Prices rose throughout the country, with both the West Coast and Midwest seeing the largest regional increase of 5.5 cents to $2.753 per gallon and $2.578 per gallon, respectively. West Coast prices were still the highest regional prices in the nation, with California prices gaining 8.5 cents to reach $2.812 per gallon.
