TRALA Acts On Texas Fuel Tax Refund Initiatve

May 31, 2005

AUSTIN, TEXAS — A TRALA-supported initiative in Texas to reinstate the diesel fuel tax refund for on-road diesel fuel used in reefer units will be considered in the closing days of the state's legislative session. The refund provision is included in two bills, House Bill 3540 and Senate Bill 1863, both of which are in the conference committee stage. TRALA is urging the inclusion of the tax refund in the final versions of the respective bills. In 2003 the tax refund for diesel fuel used to power reefer units was inadvertently eliminated through legislation. Prior to the change, a carrier could purchase on-road diesel for reefer unit operation and apply for a refund of tax paid on the fuel. the Texas Motor Truck Association led the efforts in this initiative. For more information contact TRALA’s John Lynch.
