California to Announce Statewide Natural Gas Vehicle Deployment Targets

The California Natural Gas Vehicle Partnership (www.cngvp.org), an alliance of government air quality, transportation and energy agencies, together withvehicle and engine manufacturers, natural gas suppliers, vehicle fleetoperators and environmentalists, announced statewide targets for thedeployment of low-emission natural gas powered vehicles.The three- to 10-year targets, were announced at an Oct. 8 mediabriefing in conjunction with the World Natural Gas Vehicle 2002 conferencein Washington, D.C., are expected to significantly decrease emissions inCalifornia.Making the announcement was Norma J. Glover, chairman of the CaliforniaNatural Gas Vehicle Partnership and chairman of the South Coast Air QualityManagement District (SCAQMD), which includes Los Angeles, Orange, Riversideand San Bernadino Counties. With this announcement, California continues tolead the way in taking steps to reduce vehicle emissions and promote cleanair. California’s plan will provide a model for other states and regionaljurisdictions.
