Slight Drop in Diesel Prices
Figures released by the U.S. Department of Energy show the average retail price of a gallon of diesel fuel has dropped by one-tenth of a cent from the week of May 20, to $1.308. Prices have been dropping steadily, but slowly, since reaching their high of $1.323 in early April.Average prices dropped from one-tenth to three-tenths of a cent in every region except the West Coast. There, prices jumped nearly a full cent because of a 2.4-cent increase in the average price in California to $1.423.The highest average price was in the New England region, where diesel was $1.396 per gallon, followed closely by the Central Atlantic region with $1.395. The lowest average prices were recorded in the Lower Atlantic region, at $1.268.
