Salt Lake City has activated 28 new Level 2 charging stations for plug-in electric vehicles at 12 sites around the city, according to a city release.

The new charging stations, which are on the ChargePoint network, expand and replace five older units. New locations include International Peace Gardens, Sorenson Multicultural Center, Sunnyside Avenue near Hogle Zoo, Pioneer Park, Forest Dale Golf Course, and others.

"This project is a win for clean air, while also providing more equitable access to charging stations at locations across the city," said Mayor Jackie Biskupski.

Funding for the stations came from a Utah Division of Air Quality (DAQ) grant that paid for hard costs, including purchasing the new stations. This money was combined with city funding to help pay for the overall investment.

The City Council will consider a proposal from the mayor to waive user fees through Jan. 31. For now, the fee is $1 plus 10 cents per kilowatt hour.
