Fleet FAQ? Fleet Tracking and Telematics

Q. Is there a possibility that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will delay the Dec. 18, 2017, ELD Mandate deadline?

July 14, 2017, by Todd Ewing - Also by this author

A. There are no indications that the FMCSA will delay the Dec. 18, 2017, ELD Mandate deadline. When the most recent legal challenge to the ELD Mandate by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) was rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court in June, that appeared to clear the way for keeping the implementation on schedule. Fleets should not expect the FMCSA to delay the deadline, and should be in the process of implementing an ELD (Electronic Logging Device) if they haven’t done so already. Fleets and drivers in violation of the ELD Mandate will likely face citations, fines, and the vehicle being put out of service.
