Nissan North America is recalling 625,000 Altimas in the 2013-2015 model years because the model’s hood is at risk for opening unexpectedly while the vehicle is in operation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

The recall affects Altima sedans manufactured from March 1, 2013, to Dec. 31, 2014. In these cars, the secondary hood latch may bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed. If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, NHTSA said.

This latest recall is an expansion of a previous one (14V-565).

Nissan is developing a remedy plan, NHTSA said. Vehicle owners can reach Nissan customer service at (800) 647-7261.
